How to move your CaseGuard settings to a new machine

We recently got new machines and need to move all of CaseGuard’s custom settings and templates so we do not have to manually recreate them. How can I do this?

In this guide, we will walk you through how to easily transfer all of your CaseGuard custom settings and templates to a new machine, ensuring you can easily continue redacting with CaseGuard without needing to recreate anything manually.

Follow These Steps to Move Your CaseGuard Settings to a New Machine

  1. Locate the CaseGuard Files on the Current Machine
To begin, we need to locate the CaseGuard files where your custom settings and templates are stored. The location depends on how CaseGuard was installed:

    • Per User Installation: The files will be located here: C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Roaming\Studio\
    • All Users Installation: The files will be located here: C:\ProgramData\CaseGuard Studio\

If you’re unsure which installation type was used, please refer to our installation guide for detailed instructions on determining the installation type.

  2. Copy the CaseGuard Studio Folder
Once you locate the folder where your CaseGuard custom settings and templates are stored:

    • Right-click on the CaseGuard Studio folder.
    • Select Copy.
    • Paste this folder into a safe and accessible location, such as an external drive, network storage, or cloud storage. This ensures the folder is ready for use when you set up the new machines.
  3. Install CaseGuard on the New Machines
After receiving your new machines, install CaseGuard on them as usual. During installation, choose the appropriate installation type (Per User or All Users) based on your previous setup.
  4. Replace the Settings Folder on the New Machines
    After installing CaseGuard:

    • Navigate to the corresponding location on the new machines where the CaseGuard Studio folder was installed.
    • Delete the existing CaseGuard Studio folder from this location.
    • Paste the CaseGuard Studio folder you copied from the old machines into this location.
  5. Verify Your Custom Settings and Templates
Open CaseGuard on the new machines. All previously configured settings and templates should now be available and ready to use.
