How To: Use Video Editing Tools to Speed Up Your Video Redaction

This guide provides an overview of CaseGuard Studio’s video redaction tools and how they support a faster, more efficient video redaction workflow. You’ll learn how to cut and adjust audio, change playback speed, take snapshots, resize video, and correct video orientation using simple, flexible methods. By pre-editing your files before applying redactions, you can quickly isolate relevant content, reduce processing time, and improve overall accuracy when handling sensitive video evidence.

How to Use the Cut Tool in CaseGuard Studio

Method One: Using the Audio Tools

  1. Open the Audio Tools.

  2. From the Effects dropdown, select Cut.

  3. Choose the start and end points for the segments you want to remove.

  4. Export the file the exported file will contain only the remaining (kept) audio, with the unwanted segments removed.

Method Two: Cutting Directly on the Audio Wave

  1. Highlight the part of the audio wave you want to cut.

  2. Make sure your cursor is within the highlighted section.

  3. Select Cut (this will remove the highlighted segment)

  4. Export the file. The exported file will contain only the remaining (kept) audio, with the unwanted segments removed.

Changing Audio Speed in CaseGuard Studio

CaseGuard Studio allows you to adjust the speed of specific audio sections, either to slow down complex dialogue for easier redaction or to speed up irrelevant sections and save review time. There are two ways to change audio speed:

Method One: Using the Audio Tools

  1. Open the Audio Tools panel.

  2. From the Effects dropdown, select Change Speed.

  3. Choose the start and end points for the section you want to adjust.

  4. Set the desired speed level (slower or faster).

  5. Export the file. The exported file will include the adjusted audio speed for the selected segments.

Method Two: Changing Speed Directly on the Audio Wave

  1. Highlight the section of the audio waveform you want to adjust.

  2. Make sure your cursor is within the highlighted section.

  3. Select Change Speed and choose the desired speed level.

  4. Export the file. The exported file will include the adjusted audio speed for the highlighted segments.

Both methods give you precise control over audio speed, making redaction more efficient and focused on relevant content.

5. Take Snapshots:

In CaseGuard, the Take Snapshots tool allows you to extract unlimited images directly from your videos, making it easy to capture and save key frames.

Method One: Using the Camera Icon on the Audio Wave

  1. Open your video and locate the audio waveform.

  2. Click the camera icon directly on the waveform at the frame you want to capture.

  3. The snapshot will be taken instantly and saved in the Activity Panel for easy access.

Method 2: Using the Tools Menu

  1. Go to Tools > Video > Snapshot.

  2. Select the frame or frames you want to capture.

  3. The snapshot will be created and saved in the Activity Panel, ready for use.

Both methods let you capture unlimited images from your videos, making it easy to document key frames or evidence without interrupting your workflow.

Resizing Video in CaseGuard Studio

The Resize tool allows you to change the size of your video while preserving quality and aspect ratio.

How to Resize a Video:

  1. Open the Resize Tool panel.

  2. Choose whether to resize by percentage or by pixel dimensions.

  3. (Optional) Select Preserve Aspect Ratio to keep the video’s original proportions.

  4. Apply the resize changes.

  5. Export the video. The exported file will reflect the new size.

Rotating Video in CaseGuard Studio

CaseGuard Studio’s Rotate tool allows you to rotate or flip video footage, ensuring correct orientation before redaction. Proper rotation helps detection tools perform accurately and improves editing precision. There are two ways to rotate video:

Method One: Using the Rotate Tool Panel

  1. Open the Rotate Tool panel.

  2. Select Rotate and choose your desired angle of rotation (e.g., 90°, 180°, etc.).

  3. Pick the segment of the video you want to rotate.

  4. Drag the red outline to adjust the area of rotation if needed.

  5. Export the video. The exported file will include the rotated footage for the selected segment.

Method 2: Using Manual Rotation Controls on the Preview

  1. Open your video in the preview window.

  2. Use the manual rotation controls (buttons or slider) to rotate or flip the video to the desired orientation.

  3. Confirm the rotation. The adjusted video will now be properly oriented and ready for redaction.
