How to: Create an Automated Privilege Log in CaseGuard

Use Case

The requestor of a file may ask you to provide a list of Redaction Reasons for all the files you’ve worked on. How can you add Redaction Reasons at the file level in CaseGuard?

In this article, we’ll cover two ways to add Redaction Reasons:

  1. For a new project (before any files are added)
  2. For an existing project (editing Redaction Reasons for files already added)

Follow these steps!

1. Adding Redaction Reasons for a New Project

If you haven’t created a project yet, follow these steps:

  • Create a New Project
    • Open CaseGuard.
    • Select New Project

  • Add Project Details and Redaction Reasons
    • In the New Project window, open the More Information drop-down.

    • Add any relevant details about your project.
    • At the bottom, use the Redaction Reasons drop-down to select as many reasons as needed.
    • To add custom reasons, click the plus (+) icon next to the drop-down.

  • Finalize the Project

    • Once you’ve added all Redaction Reasons, click New Project.
    • Any files you add to this project will automatically have these Redaction Reasons applied.

2. Editing Redaction Reasons for an Existing Project

If your project is already created and files are added, you can update Redaction Reasons as follows:

  • Open File Privileges
    • In CaseGuard, go to Edit and select File Privileges from the menu options (see the screenshot below).

    • The File Privileges window will open.
  • Add or Remove Redaction Reasons

    • From here, you can select or deselect any Redaction Reasons for your files.

3. Exporting the Privilege Log

Once your Redaction Reasons are set, you can generate a report:

  • Click the Print Reports icon at the top of CaseGuard.

  • In the Print Report window, select the Report drop-down and choose Privilege Log.

  • The window will display all files in your project along with their Redaction Reasons.
  • To export or print the report, use the Export drop-down or the Print icon.
