Manual PDF Redaction in CaseGuard Studio

Hi everyone! Welcome back to the CaseGuard Studio training course. In this video, we’ll cover the basics of manual PDF redaction.

Manual Redaction

  1. Select Manual Redaction: Once your file is in your CaseGuard project, click the “Manual Redaction” button on the left-hand side of the screen. This feature gives you full control over what to redact on the page.
  2. Redaction Box: Draw a redaction box and select a redaction reason from the dropdown menu. You can adjust, move, and duplicate the box on subsequent pages.

Note: Grid lines are only visible in editing mode. Once exported, redactions are filled in and permanent.

Find & Redact

  1. Activate Find & Redact: Click the find and redact button on the left-hand side.
  2. Redaction Options: Highlight any word, right-click, and apply redaction to the highlighted text, page, or entire document.
  3. Search Functionality: Use the find & redact panel at the bottom to search for words or phrases. Add a redaction reason from the dropdown menu.
  4. Navigation: Use the down arrow or Enter key to find the next instance of a word. Click “Redact” for single instances or “Redact all” for all occurrences.

Pattern Redaction

  1. Select Pattern: At the bottom of your workspace, choose a pattern from the dropdown menu (e.g., email addresses).
  2. Redact Patterns: Click “Redact” for single instances or “Redact all” for all occurrences.
  3. Color Coding: Choose different colors for redaction boxes (e.g., red for email addresses, black for phone numbers).

CaseGuard Studio includes built-in patterns, but you can add your own by clicking the “+” button next to the pattern dropdown list.

Finalizing Redactions

  • Grid Lines: In the final version, grid lines are fully redacted, and information behind boxes is permanently removed.
  • Compare Files: Use the “Compare” feature in your project files panel to compare original and redacted files.
  • View in Adobe: Open the redacted PDF in Adobe; hovering over any redaction will display the reason for it.

That’s all for today! In upcoming videos, we’ll cover PDF Redaction through list search, AI PDF redaction, bulk PDF redaction, and more. See you soon!
