Manual Video Redaction | CaseGuard Studio Training Course
Redacting Videos in CaseGuard Studio
When redacting videos in CaseGuard Studio, it’s best practice to pin the object detection panel, located as vertical menu tabs on the right-hand side of your workspace.
Methods of Video Redaction
CaseGuard offers three methods for video redaction: manual redaction, object tracking, and automatic detection. In this session, we’ll focus on the manual redaction method.
Starting Manual Redaction
In the previous session, we created a redaction project and added a video file. Let’s begin manual redaction on that file:
- Activate Manual Detection: Click on the manual detection button in the left-hand toolbar.
- Choose Shape: The manual detection panel will open at the bottom of your workspace. Choose one of five shapes—rectangles, triangles, circles, ellipses, or diamonds. Use the ellipse shape for redacting faces.
- Select Effect: There are 31 redaction and enhancement effects available. For this video, we’ll use the blur effect.
- Draw Redaction Box: Draw a redaction box over your object and adjust its size and position as needed.
Adjusting Redaction
- Use the effect level bar in the manual redaction panel to set the strength of your redaction effect.
- The “Objects in Frame” panel shows what’s covered by your redaction box.
Navigating Through Video
- Play and Track: Click play to start the redaction process and use your mouse to move the redaction box with the object.
- Keyboard Navigation: Use the right arrow key to move forward and the left arrow key to move backward frame by frame. Resize and reposition the box as needed.
- Adjust Speed: Use the speed dropdown feature in the player timeline to slow down the video for better tracking. Lowering speed by 0.3 can help you follow objects more accurately.
Finalizing Redaction
Continue using these methods until you’ve finished redacting your video. Review your work by watching from the beginning and making adjustments as necessary.
Exporting Your Video
- Export Process: Click on the green export button in the top right corner.
- Export Settings: In the export popup window, rename your file and choose to start exporting now or schedule it for later. Scheduling is useful for long videos that require extended export times.
- Monitor Progress: A progress bar at the bottom indicates how far along you are in the export process.
Once exported, find your final redacted version under the project files panel. Play it for a final review; note that red borders seen during editing are not present in the final version—they’re only visible during editing to aid in adjustments.
Security Assurance
Rest assured that no one can remove the redaction box to see what’s behind it—it’s completely removed. Only you can make edits because you have access to the original file.
Conclusion
Manual redaction requires active involvement as you handle each step manually. Future sessions will demonstrate how automatic options can streamline and automate this process.
