Manual Audio Redaction in CaseGuard Studio

Hi everyone! Welcome to the CaseGuard Studio training course. In this video, we will cover manual audio redaction. Everything we do on an audio file today can also be done on any video file with audio using the same steps.

Setting Up Your Redaction Project

  1. Create a New Project: Begin by creating a new redaction project and give it a descriptive name.
  2. Select an Audio File: Once the file is uploaded, it will appear under your project files panel.

Opening the Audio Wave

To work on audio redaction, click the show audio wave button at the end of the player bar on the right. You can resize the audio wave to make it larger or smaller.

Manual Audio Redaction Methods

Click on the mute button in the left-hand toolbar to open the “mute audio” panel at the bottom of your workspace. There are four ways to manually redact audio:

  1. Capture Start and End Time:
    • Click the hand icon next to “Start time” to capture when private information begins.
    • Click the hand icon next to “End time” to capture when it ends.
    • Click “Mute” to confirm. The redaction will appear in your audio wave.
  2. Press and Hold:
    • Hold down the button with your mouse for the duration of the redaction.
    • Click “Bleep” to confirm. This will show up in a different color in your audio wave.
  3. Input Start and End Time:
    • Manually enter start and end times if you know them.
    • Click “Mute” to confirm. It will appear in green in comparison to Bleep, which is orange.
  4. Highlighting Audio Wave:
    • Highlight a portion of the audio wave bar and right-click to apply an audio redaction.

Audio Redaction Tools

  • Mute: Mutes the audio.
  • Bleep: Adds a bleep sound over the audio.
  • Change Voice: Alters the tone of the speaker’s voice for anonymity.

Reviewing and Adjusting Redactions

After applying redactions, review your work:

  • Adjust the length of redaction boxes in the audio wave if needed.
  • Change the type of audio redaction by right-clicking on a redaction box and selecting a different option.

In editing mode, you will hear a mute instead of a bleep, but when exported, bleeps will be audible.

Exporting Your Redacted Audio

To export:

  1. Click on the blue export button at the top right of your workspace.
  2. Once exported, play the redacted file from your project files panel to compare editing mode with the final version.

To locate files on your machine, select “open project folder” in your project files panel to find both original and redacted files.

Making Edits

You can always make edits by clicking on the original file in CaseGuard Studio. Edit, adjust, and export your redacted file as needed. That’s all for today! We learned how to manually redact audio files in CaseGuard Studio using four methods: capture start and end time, manually inputting time, press and hold, and highlighting the audio wave bar.
