Subtitling Basics

In a previous article we discussed how CaseGuard Studio is designed to create subfiles from files that are uploaded to the system and thus create analytical data in order to review content more efficiently when needed.

One of the subfiles created from audio and video files is the subtitle file. This is similar to a script of the dialogue that has been entered. Language libraries are used to convert audio to text and ensure the accuracy of the process.

This is how data files instantly create a subtitle chain that can be played in real time once the original audio or video file has been accessed.

Live subtitled

As the video is uploaded, the subtitling process starts. When this subfile is linked to a project folder, a round of analysis occurs and when you select the subtitling tool, the subtitle starts to appear while the original file is playing. This way you can check the work of the tool in real time.

Changes on the fly

After the subtitle subfile has been created, the text size, type, and colors, among many other aspects of the subtitle, can be modified.

Additionally, you can color-code dialogue so it’s visually clear who is speaking and when. You can also identify each speaker with a name, change subtitle boxes to be smaller, or create “chase” dialogue so that the words in the box change as each person speaks.

But most importantly, you can make word changes to your subtitles when you review the video. This is very useful when the subtitling feature doesn’t pick up a word properly. This can happen when the speaker mispronounces or uses a slang term, or when external noises cloud what is said. But you have the ability to make edits, ensuring that your subtitles remain accurate. Plus, because our subtitling tool is backed by a multitude of language libraries and goes through several analysis processes before giving you a final version, you’ll find that you only need to make minor edits to the subtitles for an hour-long video. This is much better than having to correct every sentence, as is the case when using the vast majority of other subtitling software.
