In Memory of Air Interdiction Agent Christopher Doyle Carney
Air Interdiction Agent Chris Carney gave his life to protect the citizens of the US while continuing to protect the borders and air space during a global pandemic. Before Carney served as an Air Interdiction Agent, he worked as a Customs and Border Patrol Agent for over two years. Carney had given his life in service, starting from a very young age. Carney was a US Army Veteran and had been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his bravery.
In Memory of Lieutenant Marzell Jerome Brooks
Lt. Brooks had served his community with the Brookhaven Police Department for over 28 years. He also worked closely with the children in the school district as a resource officer for 20 years. He was known as “a giant among men.” He was also a role model, leader, and community asset.
In Memory of Police Officer Travis C. Wallace
In every tragic shooting, there is an impact more significant than that of its victim. In this case, the community lost a valuable asset, sworn to protect them and treat them with respect. A family lost its leader and faced the repercussions that come with the sudden loss of a loved one. Police Officer Travis C. Wallace leaves behind a large family. He leaves his mother, two children, and several brothers and sisters. The family had concern as Wallace had sole-custody of his 10-year-old son.
In Memory of Sergeant Sean Rios
When someone loses their life to gun violence, it is often forgotten that the family members are also victims. They suffer the grief of a lost loved one and the anger against the person or situation that caused their loved one’s death. Sergeant Sean Rios had a large family that loved him. He was father to four children and is also survived by his mother, father, brother, and two close cousins, who also work as HPD Detectives.
In Memory of Deputy Sheriff Johnny R. Tunches
The loss of 250,000 Americans to the virus demonstrates the toll that the coronavirus is taking in the US. Deputy Sheriff Johnny R. Tunches leaves behind his wife and three daughters. Three daughters will carry on the legacy of their father. The local community will help provide support to the Tunches family as they share their grief and their father’s legacy.
Vehicle-Related Line-of-Duty Deaths
Many in the general public are not aware that vehicle-related accidents are among the top reasons for the line of duty deaths and severe injuries for officers. Motor vehicle-related incidents are also among the most preventable forms of injuries and fatalities for officers.
In Memory of Detective Kevin Collins
On October 5th, 2020 Detective Kevin Collins passed away from gun violence. Him and another officer were both wounded after conducting an ingoing investigation at a hotel. He leaves behind friends, family, neighbors, and colleagues who will miss him dearly.
